Evander Flay Wallace

LAWNDALE — Mr. Evander Flay Wallace, 78, of 1204 W. Stagecoach Trail, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Born in Cleveland County, Jan. 15, 1928, he was a son of the late Brack Cleveland Wallace and Nettie Lee Southard Wallace and retired after 38 years as department head with City of Shelby Utilities. He was an Army veteran, 7th Division, 17th Infantry Regiment, U.S. Occupational Troops, South Korea, and was a member of Palm Tree United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Elmore and Agnes Garver.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Carter Wallace; daughters, Vanna W. Wright and husband, Dennis, and Cinda W. Cabaniss and husband, Mike, all of Shelby; two brothers, B. C. Wallace of Shelby and Vernon T. Wallace of Charlotte; two sisters, Catherine Denton of Lawndale and Dorothy Sue LaPorte of Salisbury; and three grandchildren, Brandy Smith, Michael Wright and Aaron Cabaniss.

The funeral is Thursday at 2 p.m. at Palm Tree United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Ellen Harkey, Mike Harrill and Paul Williams officiating. Burial is in Rose Hill Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Army and the Lawndale American Legion.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.
