Mildred Elane Eaker Yeck

SHELBY — Mrs. Mildred Elane Eaker Yeck, 84, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
Although Mildred was born in Bastrop, La., on Oct. 1, 1922, she was only two years old when her parents returned to their native home in Lawndale, where she was raised. After she graduated from Piedmont High School she attended Charlotte Business School. She later joined the Marine Corps during World War II, where she met her husband, Groff Clinton Yeck of Peoria, Ill. They raised their family in Falls Church, Va. Mildred worked in the Safety Compliance Department of the Naval Research Center in Carderock, Md. In 1988 Mildred and Groff retired and moved to Lawndale, where she continued to enjoy gardening, hiking, entertaining and traveling. She was an active member in the Shelby Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and her husband served a mission for the LDS Church in the Orlando, Fla., Temple from 1997-1998.
Mrs. Yeck was preceded in death by her husband, Groff Clinton Yeck; her parents, Lee Summerow Eaker and Mary Priscilla Digh Eaker; sister, Vivian Champion; and three brothers, Norman, Jesse, and Ray Eaker.
She is survived by her daughter Priscilla Nygaard and husband, Scott, of Tokyo; and two sons, William Yeck and wife, Barbara of Dallas, Texas; and Carl Yeck and wife, Cody of Highland, Utah; 10 grandchildren, Summer Meyers and husband, Michael, Ashley Claire and Neils Nygaard, Elizabeth, Laura, Michael, Caitlin, Levi, Alyssa and Kayla Yeck; her sister, Betty Putnam of Hendersonville; and two brothers, Jim Eaker and wife Emily; and Paul Eaker and wife Shirley, all of Lawndale.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
Funeral: Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Shelby Ward, 307 Country Club Road, Shelby
Burial: Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston
