Warren Newell Richards

April 24, 1922-April 29, 2007
BELWOOD — Mr. Warren Newell Richards, 85 of 916 Belwood-Lawndale Road, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2007, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born April 24, 1922, in Cleveland County, Mr. Richards retired from Fasco Industries as a mechanic. Mr. Richards pitched professional baseball for the Lincolnton Cardinals in the Western Carolina Class D League from 1948-1951 and was a member of Knob Creek United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Caiphas Glenn Richards and Fannie Leonhardt Richards; two brothers, Carroll and Austin Richards; and eight sisters, Annie Buff, Katie Leonhardt, Maude Murray, Madge Johnson, Elva Brown, Janie Guess, Marjorie Ledford and Monta Lou Meade.
Mr. Richards is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lorene Costner Richards; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Parker of Belwood; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Sathel Richards of Belwood; two grandsons, Kevin Parker and wife, Summer, of Gaffney, S.C., and Mark Parker of Polkville; sisters-in-law, Faye Richards of Fallston and Tina Lail and husband, Phillip, of Belwood; and numerous nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Funeral: Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel
Burial: Rose Hill Memorial Park
