Cyrus Pratt McRorie

LAWNDALE — Mr. Cyrus Pratt McRorie Sr., 85, of 333 E. Main St., died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at home.

Born April 23, 1919, in Union County, he was a son of the late Reece F. and Lydia Stinson McRorie.

Mr. McRorie served in the Eighth Army Air Force stationed in England during World War II. He flew 32 missions over Europe, which earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross and the air medal. He was a self-employed mechanic for more than 20 years and then he worked in maintenance for 20 years at Fiber Industries. He was a member of Lawndale United Methodist Church, Shelby VFW Post 4066, where he served as past commander, and was a member of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Historical Society.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wray McRorie; and a sister, Irene Williams.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Wallace McRorie of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Cyrus Jr. and Suzanne McRorie of Greenwood, S.C., Reece and Jennifer McRorie of Shelby and Kevin and Suzanne McRorie of Lawndale; two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Gene Hopkins of Charlotte and Lydia and Bob Hendrick of Lawndale; two brothers, Reece McRorie of Charlotte and David McRorie of Leesburg, Fla.; a sister, Lucille Purser of Goose Creek; 10 grandchildren, Chad McRorie, Gina Hopkins, Scott Summerlin, Michael Summerlin, Robin Hendrick, Cyrus McRorie III, Michael McRorie, Emily McRorie, Joseph McRorie and Erica Owensby; three great-grandchildren, Zeke McRorie, Jesse Summerlin and Sam Summerlin.

The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Alton Martin officiating.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 to 8.
